2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Central finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Central just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 5A region three with a 2-4 region record. Central was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Falcons want to be competitive. They only averaged 16.7 points a game. Since 2010, the Central football program has struggled with a record of 21-51. Over the past 25 seasons, Central has managed to compile a record of 141-128. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 28th in Class 5A and 160th in the AHSAA. The Falcons are led by head coach Dennis Connor who is entering his eighth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 21-51 over the past seven seasons at Central. Under his direction the Falcons have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Connor. Coach Connor's overall record as a head football coach in seven season stands at 21-51 (29.2%). The Central Falcons will play in Class 5A region three during the 2017 season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Falcons could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region three this season. Central missed the playoffs the past couple of seasons but hope to return to the post season in 2017. The Falcons open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Bessemer City on Friday, August 25 at Falcon Stadium. Last year the Bessemer City Purple Tigers finished with an overall record of 7-5 and in third place in Class 6A region four. The Purple Tigers lost in the second round of the Class 6A playoffs to Park Crossing by a score of 52-26. Central and Bessemer City have met a total of 30 times on the football field. The Falcons have a 15-15-0 record against the Purple Tigers. They last met in 2016 with Bessemer City winning by a score of 26-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
